Autodesk

During our stay we had the incredible chance to discover the multinational company Autodesk. Established in 1982, it is the leader of CAD companies (Computer-aided design) and is now marketed in more than 106 countries worldwide. Specialized in the software creation for architecture, engineering, construction, manufacturing and entertainment, Autodesk had a real success with the launch of the AutoCAD software and moved up to 5th-largest software companies in the world.

It was therefore a real opportunity for us to get into the incredible world of this American giant. Thanks to Scott Sheppard, who is currently a Labs Program manager at Autodesk, we were able to visit the gallery which displays the customers’ work.

It is wide-eyed that we realized the potential of the various software operated by Autodesk. Our guide began by explaining the purpose of Autodesk, which is to avoid customers having to test their products several times with different materials. Softwares developed by the company allow customers to save valuable time returning data and thus obtaining the right materials to be used more quickly.

Here are some examples of the potential of Autodesk softwares:

– The Shanghai Tower, whose plans were made on AutoCAD, is a twisted tower which reduces wind loads by 24%. It has a durable design and creates electricity.

– Airbus is working on an innovative prototype airliner. The aircraft will be made of transparent material.

– Autodesk serves medicine as we can now rebuild bone after making sure to find a material that would not be rejected by man. But there is also the DNA origami invention, which is a true medical breakthrough. It can interact with biological systems to fight cancer. These cells created are unique and adapt to each patient to better fight their illness.

– The Bay Bridge in San Francisco was designed to support earthquake as it can contracts and swing itself.

– Autodesk serves medias such as cinema, TV or video games with motion capture to create effects or add animations.

– The company has developed a bright soccer ball. Playing with the ball creates energy which will be transformed to illuminate the ball.

– The Innovative Car, a concept created by Mercedes Benz with special conditions such as the weigh (> 1000 pounds). With futurist spirit, the company decided to use bioluminescence for the headlights and the car releases oxygen when it works and becomes part of the ecosystem.

– We have also seen the power of 3D printers, which can create anything with any materials (glass, plastic, metal…).

As you can see, so many technologies have risen with Autodesk, but the project that our guide has found the most interesting is the SketchBook motion, an application to make little personalized animation. And you, what’s yours?
