Caweb on Tour’s trip at Google

On Friday the 21st October 2016, we went on a trip to the Google campus located in Mountain View, California.

As soon as we arrived, we were meeting our host Amy Hanly who sent us our invitation by e-mail and who gave us our guest-badges. We went on a quick trip around the campus. Our first step was in the Android garden where you can find all the updates of the Android firmware represented as statues. The next stop was the Google store, where you can Google-dress yourself from top to toe!

We then went to meet Craig Paterson, Technical Program Manager for Google. He told us that he has been working for Google for 6 years now. He explained to us that Google is trying to localize their website for every country in the world. We also learned about some issues they have with the localization of some website, and the problems they encounter with gathering the data. If so, they often rely on the knowledge their engineers already have about one country to avoid making further researches. Craig also spoke about some confidential data we can’t write about such as how the Google algorithm works.

After the meeting with Craig, Amy took us to the Museum Room of Google where we met Aprajita Jain. She gave us explanation about what we could find in this room. We saw a typical office environment, artist designed android statues, some pictures of events organized by Google and even a ball pit.

We were introduced to the many advantages that the Google campus got such as food in easy access everywhere on the campus. The employee should never have to struggle to find something to eat. You can also find many free transports like the Google bike or some shuttles. They even have a 24/7 accessible fitness room for each employee. Long story short, Google make everything to make their employee feel comfortable.
